Sony recognized by Maclean’s/Jantzi-Sustainalytics as one of Canada’s Top 50 Socially Responsible Corporations in 2011

Sony was recognized by Maclean’s/Jantzi-Sustainalytics as one of Canada’s top 50 Socially Responsible Corporations. Since its launch in April 2008, Sony of Canada’s national electronics program has diverted more than 205,000 kilograms of old electronics from landfills. The program has also doubled the number of retail collection sites across Canada.

Maclean’s/Jantzi-Sustainalytics also recognized Sony for incorporating vegetable-based raw materials into product packaging to reduce use of conventional plastics derived from petroleum sources.

Sony Canada’s waste minimization efforts have been recognized by the Recycling Council of Ontario, with a 2008 Waste Minimization Award. The RCO presented Sony Canada with the top-level Platinum award in the Business Category for its waste minimization initiatives, specifically the expansion of its recycling program to include all old Sony products. Sony Canada was also recognized for its environmental leadership in all aspects of its business, including closed loop stewardship from product design to recycling.
