Sony Canada environmental objectives:

To divert 85% of the waste generated at Sony Canada operations from landfill by fiscal year 2010.

To develop product stewardship programs to maximize the diversion of Sony products from landfill by making it as easy to recycle a Sony product as it is to purchase one.

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20% of 1999 levels by end of 2010 through reducing energy reduction activities.

Operational performance in Fiscal Year 2009 (Apr09-Mar10)

Energy consumption was reduced by 15% since fiscal year 1999. This resulted in a reduction in Greenhouse gas emissions by 16%.

We replaced 82 of our older model network servers with 15 new ones to reduce power consumption at our head office by 5%.

Our western distribution center put in water heaters under the sinks to save on energy needed to heat water and reduce the time needed to run taps to get hot water.

Decreased waste generation by 27% since fiscal year 1999.

Sony recycling program update

Collected and recycled 100,000kg of Sony products since 2008 from our customers.

We have 58 permanent non-retail collection sites across Canada to make it as easy as possible to recycle Sony products.

Expanded the list of product that can be returned with the addition of DVD players portable/non-portable AV products, cameras, camcorders, projectors, speakers, and printers.
